Hey, what's going on?
Mark:Welcome to the Podcast Accelerator back from hiatus.
Mark:I am your host, Mr.
Mark:Mark Asquith, co-founder of Captivate.fm.
Mark:And in this short episode, I just want to give you a bit of a bonus look at
Mark:what is coming up here on the podcast accelerator as we ramp up to the first.
Mark:Proper episode dropping very, very shortly.
Mark:So if you've tuned into the, the, the episode that I previously put out
Mark:about why I took the hiatus and, and, and I think what Motivate motivated
Mark:me for, for coming back, you'll know that I wanted to do two things.
Mark:I wanted to stay focused on your podcast growth.
Mark:You know, what, what can we do collectively as Captivate, but
Mark:also collectively as an industry to help you to grow your podcast
Mark:because that's why we are here.
Mark:And in particular, it's why I.
Mark:I've brought this content back.
Mark:The podcast accelerator is one of the OG shows now, believe it or not,
Mark:it's one of the OG shows helping you with your podcast growth.
Mark:We've seen a lot of gurus pop up over the last year or two, um, who have got, you
Mark:know, um, varying experience in podcasting and, uh, looking to capitalize on, on
Mark:the booming industry that is podcasting by bringing out shows, uh, that, that
Mark:purport to help you to grow your podcast.
Mark:And I'm not saying they're good.
Mark:I'm not saying they're bad.
Mark:They're all subjective.
Mark:Of course, that is entirely up to you.
Mark:However, my focus is on action.
Mark:It's on about basically getting you to do things.
Mark:It's all about making sure that you know what you can do within
Mark:the boundaries of your timeframes.
Mark:And not feeling bad about not doing certain things.
Mark:I think that's a bit of a problem in the industry.
Mark:You know, if you don't adopt certain things, if you don't jump on certain
Mark:trends, if you don't do certain things, a lot of people will frankly make
Mark:you feel bad and, you know, make you feel like you're not a quote unquote.
Mark:Proper podcaster, which is of course absolute rubbish.
Mark:So I never wanna make you feel like that.
Mark:You know me, if you've listened to this show for the, for the hundreds of episodes
Mark:and all the thousands of episodes that I've done in the past, across the very
Mark:shows that I've done, you know, that I am very much about being honest with you.
Mark:I'm very much about being straight, talking.
Mark:I'm very, very, very much about cutting down on the hyperbole and
Mark:making sure that you know that.
Mark:It's all right not to do everything.
Mark:It's quite all right not to do everything.
Mark:So what does this mean for this podcast?
Mark:How does that manifest into content?
Mark:Well, as I mentioned on the previous coming out of hiatus episode, I'm,
Mark:I'm mixing things up a little bit.
Mark:I'm still gonna keep that red thread running through, which
Mark:is, of course actionable Straight talking podcast growth education.
Mark:And a lot of that will come from me.
Mark:You know, I'm still gonna do solo shows, I'm still gonna do solo episodes cuz
Mark:everything's changing and there's a lot of education to give and I'm still being
Mark:a marketer, I'm still being a podcaster.
Mark:So I've still got things to say.
Mark:I've still got things to, to, to discuss with you and to educate
Mark:you on and to help you with.
Mark:And obviously people ask me questions all the time, so of course
Mark:I wanna address those as well.
Mark:However, I am gonna bring on some fantastic guests to talk about some.
Mark:Particular topics that they might be a little bit closer to or they've got
Mark:more of a dedicated interest in, or, you know, they're just, they focus
Mark:on a lot more specifically than I do.
Mark:So I'm looking forward to, to bringing those guests to the,
Mark:they're all people that I know.
Mark:They're all people that are experts at what they do.
Mark:They're all people that if you're in the podcasting industry or if you are
Mark:even around the podcasting industry, then you're probably gonna know 'em.
Mark:So, Here's what's coming up.
Mark:All right, we're gonna talk to start about, we're gonna do actually
Mark:three episodes on monetization.
Mark:I'm really interested in helping you to monetize your podcast,
Mark:so we're gonna talk about.
Mark:Um, really how to use things like subscriptions and tipping and all
Mark:sorts of things like that, you know, the, the kinda listener support model.
Mark:Cause we get a lot of questions about that.
Mark:I'm gonna talk first and foremost from my perspective.
Mark:I'm gonna do an episode on, on, on, on, on my views on that and how to design
Mark:that kind of listener support experience.
Mark:Then I'm gonna talk to an expert, someone that's done this.
Mark:Well, alright, I'm gonna talk to an expert, someone that has done
Mark:this well about how to really harness that on a separate episode.
Mark:And then I'm gonna dig deep into really kind of scaling that and, and, and
Mark:going a bit deeper on, on the kind of how that model works and how you might
Mark:be able to help yourself to monetize fairly early on in your podcasting
Mark:journey using things like tipping and subscriptions and so on and so forth.
Mark:So I'm really looking forward.
Mark:To that bunch of episodes.
Mark:We've also got an episode coming up, uh, about YouTube.
Mark:We're actually gonna talk about YouTube's free to podcasting.
Mark:What that means for you that that landscape.
Mark:Um, when it comes to, you know, what does this mean for podcasting, the
Mark:medium, but what does it also mean for you, the day-to-day podcaster?
Mark:And joining me on that episode is gonna be a good friend of mine and
Mark:someone that is, uh, is basically close to every part of podcasting.
Mark:Right now is of course, Mr.
Mark:James Cridland, the founder and the editor of POD News.
Mark:So I'm looking forward to exploring YouTube's new podcasting toolkit with Mr.
Mark:Cridland, which is gonna be fascinating.
Mark:We are also gonna talk about.
Mark:About community and in particular, The state of community in podcasting.
Mark:And what I mean by that is like you creating a community for your podcast.
Mark:Cuz it used to be that you, you know, you'd have a podcast and you'd fire up a
Mark:Facebook group and that was it, you know?
Mark:But there are a lot of technical tools out there that will help with community and.
Mark:The attention spans that people have a very, very low in comparison
Mark:to what you might expect.
Mark:So how do you actually get people to engage?
Mark:What does community around your podcast look like, look like today?
Mark:What does it look like in 2023?
Mark:Because it is different to last year, the year before, and it's
Mark:probably gonna be different again over the next couple of years.
Mark:So that's a really important topic because I think without an audience
Mark:that is engaged, as you know, if you've listened to this show, You know you're
Mark:gonna struggle to do anything else.
Mark:Alright.
Mark:So that's really quite fascinating and I've also got what is quite
Mark:interesting for me that I'm looking forward to getting out.
Mark:Then an interview with me on my own show, reflecting on 10 years of podcasting.
Mark:An interview by my good friend, the founder of Pod Chat and Captivates.
Mark:Fantastic support and experience lead.
Mark:Mr.
Mark:Danny Brown, someone that loves podcasting just as much as I do,
Mark:and has got his finger firmly on the pulse of the podcasting industry,
Mark:very much from a creator perspective.
Mark:So he's actually interviewed me and he's, you know, we've talked about
Mark:the last 10 years in podcasting.
Mark:What I think about a few things, what I think of a few things that might happen
Mark:in the future, and just generally the industry, it's quite a nice opportunity.
Mark:Um, to be interviewed on my own podcast.
Mark:It's been a while since I've done this on my show, so I'm really looking
Mark:forward to getting that out to you.
